This solves a lot - though I’ve found with modern LEDs, it’s hard to get any that really dim deeply. The “smart” ones don’t seem to go below about 50%, and the ones that react to wall dimmers still manage to only go down to 30% or so before just dropping out. Incandescents will dim all the way to 0% smoothly, and we regularly run them down at the 20% range or so in the night. I agree that we don’t need nearly as much light as is commonly used!
I would love to do this. Annoyingly, my kids seem to disagree about “where things are,” and I’ve grown slightly tired of stepping on things or kicking things in the dark… a Duplo or Lego in the dark may as well be a caltrop!
But even then, very, very dim lights (an incandescent only barely glowing) is more than sufficient to allow easy navigation with dark adjusted eyes.
I’ve also got dimmers in the bathrooms for this reason - at night, I may want a tiny bit of light, but I don’t want to blind myself. Being able to just “crack the lightswitch open a hair” is wonderful, and I’ve yet to meet an LED bulb that lets me do this without blinding me.
o.O Is your bathroom 1500 square feet or something? Or do you have one of those “game show light surround mirror” sorts of things? That’s nuts, if they’re just standard fixtures.
