Chinese youth, less interested in grinding their lives to dust to make more money for someone else, and to conspicuously consume, are simply opting out. I believe Japan has a similar generation of “Stay at home and do nothing” youth.
… and based on employment weirdness in the US right now, there’s a lot of people of all ages doing roughly this.
